DUCK RIVER CANOE FLOAT

When

Saturday, August 30th at 9:00am

Details

THIS EVENT IS FULL, EVEN IF YOU HAVE YOUR OWN BOAT.

Start the Labor Day weekend off right and join us as we enjoy the cool waters of the Duck River on a warm summer day. We will be on a very flat and easy stretch of river from Leftwich Bridge to the new TWRA take out at Howard Bridge. This 4 hour stretch of the river has a gentle current and no real rapids. It’s an excellent opportunity for beginners to canoe. Participants are welcome to bring their own canoe or kayak, but will have to provide their own transportation if they do.

Leader: Forrest Evans, Stewardship Ecologist, Tennessee Division of Natural Areas. For more information about this event, or other State Scenic River events, visit the Division of Natural Areas

Price

Canoes can be rented at a special discount of $12.50 per person or $25 per canoe through a local canoe vendor. Our put-in point is a 45-minute drive south of Nashville on I-65. Bring lunch and water and maybe a change of clothes.

Meeting Location

Meet at the Target parking area at Old Hickory Blvd. and I-65 in Brentwood. Meeting time is 9am. Transportation for the first 10 people to sign up will be provided.

Reservations

Reservations required: RSVP by August 28 to Forrest Evans or call 615-532-0431

The first 10 reservations can take advantage of free van transportation provided by the Tennessee Natural Areas Program.

Event Comments

  1. Rebecca Johnson | Tue Aug 12, 14:02

Hi! My Husband and some friends of ours are interested in this trip. However, we need to know what to do about transportation if we are not amoung the first 10 reservations. We could follow the bus to the put in point but how would we get back to our vehicle after finishing the canoe trip?

  2. Rebecca Johnson | Tue Aug 12, 14:15

Hi, this is Rebecca again. Thanks for explaining on the phone how the transportation will work. I would like to go on and make reservations for 6 people.

  3. Forrest Evans | Mon Aug 18, 09:15

Hi Rebecca and all, The van is full but people are welcome to carpool. We will drop off passengers at the put-in then drive cars to the take-out and leave them there and have the vendor pick us up and take us back to the put-in. Please email me if you intend to go since there is a 30 person limit.
    Forrest

I have 3 or 4 people that would like to float with you! We are not members of Team Green. Is that ok?

  5. Forrest Evans | Mon Aug 25, 11:51

Hi Joanie, You do not need to be a member of Team Green to participate in the float. Right now the trip is full but I’m pretty sure I can get you in. I’ll be back in touch by Wednesday.
    Forrest

  6. Candice Marshall | Tue Aug 26, 12:05

Hi, my boyfriend and I and a couple of friends are interested in this trip. Is there still room?

  7. Forrest Evans | Tue Aug 26, 12:46

This float trip is full. We do not have room for any more even if you have your own canoe. The vendor is Yanahli Kayak and Canoe and can be reached at (931) 215-4891 if you wish to make this trip on another day.
    Thanks,
    Forrest

  8. Jane Spangler | Tue Aug 26, 14:04

Hello Forrest, I’m very interested in joining Team Green but see that both upcoming events in which I had an interest are booked (the GA getaway and the canoe trip). Will more events be added to the calendar for 2008 (I see that offerings get slimmer as the holidays near)? I’d like to think that my joining now wouldn’t be an ill-advised decision.

  9. Jane Spangler | Tue Aug 26, 14:16

Forrest, I may have answered my own question. Thanks.

  10. Forrest Evans | Wed Aug 27, 10:34

Hi Jane, While many events are open to non-members, like this canoe float, other events are only for members (including the super secret not yet announced bonfire). There are events added all the time of both types. It’s a great group of people and the more you hang out with them the more you will find that out for yourself.
    Cheers,
    f
